Look Up!
“Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” Matt.14:27
Mrs. Charles Cowan wrote, “Faith is not a fair-weather product; it grows amid storms. It inspires us to keep our sights raised above the rolling waves of life.”
Once a steeplejack was asked how he kept from falling from the great heights he daily scaled. His reply: “I do not look down. If ever I should look down, I would lose my nerve. I always look up; then I am safe.”
Dr. Howard Sears, who recently went to Heaven, was a wonderful saintly pastor in the area of southern Ohio. I heard him preach, he used the illustration I will never forget. He and his wife had one son. this son was married, and within a short time frame, both he and his wife died. Brother Sears told about being at the cemetery and looking at the twin graves that held the bodies of their loved ones. He looked over at his wife, saw her shoulders heaving and heard her sobs, he placed his arms around her shoulders and whispered, “Look up, Sweetheart. Look up.”
Thank God, we don’t have to look downcast at the cold gravestones; we can lok up to the golden streets of Glory and know our loved ones are in the arms of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
